L’Oreal Double Extend Beauty Tubes Mascara
I can honestly say I’ve never used false lashes – not even at Halloween. It seems complicated, messy, and a bit scary. Glue, around my eyes? I think not! And removal… Remember that flashback episode of The Dick Van Dyke show? But this looked like a nice alternative. It’s a two step mascara, designed to mimic the effect of lash extensions that are apparently popping up in salons everywhere. Cheaper than going to the salon, and minus the stress and mess of applying and removing falseys. The product creates “tubes” that surround the lashes. According to the website, Beauty Tubes can visibly extend the lashes up to 80%.
The first step is applying the base, which is a thick white cream. Next, the color goes on top. It’s the color that creates the tubes.
I’ve used this product several times, and I can say that most of the claims are true. It’s easy to apply, doesn’t smudge or flake, and lasts all day. The length you can achieve with the product is actually amazing. But if you’re not careful, it will clump on you, especially if you’re not used to using shorter wands. I don’t advise using the tip of the wand to apply color to the lashes at the corner, either. The best technique for this product, both for the base and the color, is to sweep the brush up from base to tip.
The website and product packaging both say that the tubes “remove easily with water.” Package directions actually instructed the wearer to press a very warm, wet cloth to the eye, and use a downward motion to remove them. This is much easier said than done. It took me quite a while of using this method (and constantly re-wetting my cloth) to get most of the tubes off, and the next morning I found plenty of “tublets” stuck to my face. I also tried using eye makeup remover, and that didn’t work at all. Even so, I would still rather deal with this than with falseys.
Bottom Line: Removing the product makes it too big a pain for every day wear; save it for occasions where you want some extra oomph.
